Overview

Why this journey

Seven days is the shape that fits a standard holiday allowance. Here's why we've drawn this specific week and not a longer, thinner one.

🎯
The two cities that matter most
Cairo and Luxor between them hold roughly 80% of what visitors come to Egypt to see. Doing them both properly on a week is more satisfying than doing four cities half-well.
✈️
A domestic flight, not a night train
Cairo→Luxor is an hour by EgyptAir, three minutes by taxi from the airport to Karnak. The overnight train is romantic on paper and exhausting in practice; on a seven-day trip you cannot afford to lose a day to recovery.
🎈
Sunrise balloon over Luxor optional
You have the full second morning in Luxor free — enough time to book a 5am hot-air balloon over the West Bank, land in a sugar-cane field for breakfast, then take a slow afternoon before the Karnak visit.
🕐
Sensible pacing, real rest
One "off" afternoon in each city, a proper lunch every day, and no 6am starts unless you specifically ask for one. Egypt in a week can be exhausting or paced — we build the second version.
Day-by-Day Itinerary

Your week in Egypt

Each day is carefully paced with a balance of must-see monuments, leisure time, and authentic local experiences.

1 Day
Cairo

Arrive Cairo

Airport meet-and-greet, visa handled, private transfer to your hotel. Cairo traffic makes the 20km take 45-90 minutes depending on the hour. Sofitel Cairo Nile El Gezirah — a Zamalek Island tower room with the river below. Nothing scheduled tonight. Room-service dinner if the flight was long, or the rooftop La Palme d'Or if you have anything left in you.
🍽️ D 🚗 Airport transfer included
2 Day
Giza

Giza Plateau & Grand Egyptian Museum

The best Egypt day most people ever have. Early start — 8am at the Giza gate before the tour buses. The Great Pyramid first, its scale unfolding as you walk toward it. The Sphinx from the Valley Temple below. Lunch at 9 Pyramids Lounge with a full plateau view. Afternoon: fifteen minutes across town to the Grand Egyptian Museum, opened in stages 2024-2025 — the Tutankhamun galleries now hold his complete tomb collection (5,398 items) reunited for the first time since Howard Carter emptied it.
🍽️ B, L 🎫 Giza plateau + GEM entrances ⏱️ ~9 hours
3 Day
Cairo

Coptic Cairo, Khan el-Khalili, Citadel

Older layers today. Morning in Coptic Cairo — the Hanging Church suspended on Roman gate-towers, Ben Ezra Synagogue, the Coptic Museum. Lunch at Naguib Mahfouz Café inside Khan el-Khalili — the medieval bazaar that's been trading here since 1382. Sunset from the Citadel of Saladin at the Muhammad Ali Mosque, all of Cairo laid out below in the pink light. Dinner wherever you like — Abou El Sid on Zamalek for classical Egyptian, or Zooba for modern street-food.
🍽️ B 🎫 Coptic + Islamic Cairo entries ⏱️ ~7 hours
4 Day
Luxor

Fly South to Luxor

One-hour EgyptAir flight, midday. Transfer to your Luxor hotel — Sofitel Winter Palace on the East Bank Corniche. Afternoon slow: pool, walk the Corniche, tea on the palace terrace. Karnak Sound & Light Show in the evening — 90 minutes of narrated light-play across the columns of the great temple. In English if you book English tickets specifically.
✈️ CAI → LXR flight included 🍽️ B, D 🎫 Karnak Sound & Light
5 Day
Luxor West Bank

West Bank — Valleys and Temples

Optional 4:30am pickup for the hot-air balloon — one hour aloft, breakfast at the landing field. Or a 7am start on the ground. Valley of the Kings for three tombs (your ticket covers three from the standard rotation; Seti I and Nefertari are premium separate). Hatshepsut's terraced mortuary temple at Deir el-Bahari. The Colossi of Memnon as you drive back. Lunch at Al-Moudira Hotel gardens on the West Bank. Afternoon rest.
🍽️ B, L 🎫 Valley of Kings + Hatshepsut 🎈 Optional balloon sunrise
6 Day
Luxor East Bank

East Bank — Karnak & Luxor Temple

Karnak in the morning — the largest religious building ever constructed by humans. The Hypostyle Hall is a forest of 134 columns each 22 metres tall, still carrying traces of their original paint in the shaded ceiling corners. Lunch. Late-afternoon walk to Luxor Temple, connected to Karnak by the 2.7-km Avenue of Sphinxes restored in 2021. Luxor Temple is best seen just after sunset when the floodlights come up. Farewell dinner at 1886 restaurant inside the Winter Palace.
🍽️ B, D 🎫 Karnak + Luxor Temple ⏱️ ~8 hours
7 Day

Late-morning transfer to Luxor airport (or a domestic connection back through Cairo for your international flight). If your international flight is late enough, we can arrange the Mummification Museum on the Corniche as a final stop — 45 minutes, the actual process explained.
