Overview

Why this journey

Family travel in Egypt is different from adult travel in Egypt — the pacing, the food, the site choices, and the pauses all matter more. Here's what this specific route gets right.

🏊
Nile cruise that's a floating hotel with a pool
Three nights on a cruise ship with a top-deck pool solves the family-holiday problem: everyone gets to see temples in the morning and swim in the afternoon, without transferring hotels every day. It's what makes Egypt work for kids.
🎫
Real kids' discount (not a token gesture)
Children 6-11 pay 50% of the adult rate. Children 5 and under travel free (sharing the parents' room and eating from the buffet). Extra kid meals and hotel cots are always included.
🐪
Every day has a "kid moment"
Not every temple visit is fun for a nine-year-old, so every day contains one specifically kid-facing thing — camel ride at the pyramids, galabeya night on the boat, Nubian village visit at Aswan, a felucca sail with the captain letting them steer.
☀️
Nothing before 8am unless you want it
The 5am starts adults sometimes book to beat the heat are punishing on children (and the parents who deal with them). We start at 8, take a long lunch, and rest between 2-4pm — the Egyptian family rhythm, not the tourist grind.
Day-by-Day Itinerary

Your week in Egypt

Each day is carefully paced with a balance of must-see monuments, leisure time, and authentic local experiences.

1 Day
Cairo

Arrive Cairo

Airport meet-and-greet with the visa handled at the counter. Private van with a car-seat if you told us the age of the youngest. Family suite at the Marriott Mena House — a garden-view room with the Great Pyramid directly outside the window (yes, actually). Dinner in the garden.
🍽️ D 🚗 Airport transfer + car seat included
2 Day
Giza

Pyramids & Sphinx (with a Camel)

The plateau opens at 8. You'll walk to the Great Pyramid first — kids should touch a stone block (each one weighs about as much as a small car) so the scale becomes real. Optional short camel ride between viewpoints, which every child immediately wants. Lunch at 9 Pyramids Lounge with a full plateau view. Afternoon: swim at the hotel pool, which faces the pyramids.
🍽️ B, L 🎫 Pyramids + Sphinx entries 🐪 Short camel ride included
3 Day
Giza / Cairo

Grand Egyptian Museum & Mummies

The Grand Egyptian Museum in the morning — the Tutankhamun galleries (the golden mask and the coffin) plus the Royal Mummies Hall in the lower gallery, which older kids find genuinely fascinating (younger kids: skip this one). Lunch. Afternoon at Khan el-Khalili for a bazaar walk — kids love the copper alley and the spice pyramids. Home-cooked dinner at Zooba (modern Egyptian street food, kids' menu available).
🍽️ B 🎫 GEM + Tutankhamun galleries ⏱️ ~5 hours (kid-paced)
4 Day
Luxor

Fly to Luxor · Embark Cruise

Morning flight to Luxor. Straight to the cruise ship — family cabins with connecting doors on request. Lunch on board as the ship sails south. Afternoon at Karnak Temple — walk the Hypostyle Hall (forest of columns, kids love it), then Luxor Temple in the late afternoon. Galabeya party on board tonight — everyone dresses up in a traditional galabeya (included), dinner, dance-along.
✈️ CAI → LXR flight included 🚢 Embark MS Mayfair 🍽️ B, L, D 🎭 Galabeya night onboard
5 Day
Luxor West Bank

West Bank · Valley of the Kings

Ferry across to the West Bank at 8. Valley of the Kings — three tombs on the standard ticket. Kids get properly excited here (they're walking into 3,000-year-old tombs, painted floor to ceiling). Hatshepsut's terraced temple after. Back on board for a swimming afternoon; the ship sails south toward Edfu.
🍽️ B, L, D 🎫 Valley of Kings + Hatshepsut 🏊 Pool afternoon on deck
6 Day
Edfu → Kom Ombo

Edfu & Kom Ombo

Horse-carriage from the boat to Edfu Temple (kids love the carriage). Back on board, sail through the Esna Lock at lunchtime (three-metre step-down, engineers of any age find it interesting). Kom Ombo at sunset — the crocodile-god temple, with the mummified crocodile museum next door (a hit with kids over 8, a bit much for younger).
🍽️ B, L, D 🎫 Edfu + Kom Ombo entries 🐴 Horse carriage to Edfu
7 Day
Aswan

Arrive Aswan · Nubian Village

Disembark after breakfast. Check into the Movenpick Aswan on Elephantine Island — the pool has a full Nile view. Afternoon: boat to a Nubian village on the west bank — henna for the mums, hibiscus tea, a home visit where the family shows how flatbread is made, camel ride between the village and the felucca landing. Kids love this day.
🍽️ B, L Nubian village + felucca 🎨 Henna & hibiscus tea
8 Day
Aswan

Philae & the Felucca

Morning at Philae Temple on Agilkia Island — the Isis temple UNESCO cut into blocks and rebuilt on higher ground. Kids find the rescue story more interesting than the temple itself, which is honest and fair. Afternoon free at the pool. Sunset felucca sail between Elephantine and Kitchener Islands, the captain letting the kids take the tiller.
🍽️ B 🎫 Philae Temple entrance Sunset felucca, kids steer
9 Day
Aswan → Cairo → home

Fly Home

Morning flight to Cairo, connecting to your international flight home. Airport lounge access included for a proper meal and shower before the long-haul.
