Full week on the Nile — Luxor → Aswan → Luxor with every major temple, twice.
Every day brings new wonders — from sunrise temple visits to sunset sails along the timeless Nile.
Your week on the Nile begins in Luxor — once Thebes, the capital of Egypt at its height. Board around midday, settle in over lunch, then head out in the softer afternoon light for the East Bank. The Karnak Temple Complex is the largest religious building ever raised by human hands, a maze of obelisks, pylons, and towering columns. Nearby, Luxor Temple glows at dusk, linked to Karnak by the restored Avenue of Sphinxes. Dinner and overnight moored in Luxor.
This morning you cross to the West Bank, where pharaohs were buried beneath the desert hills. In the Valley of the Kings you descend into painted tombs cut deep into the rock, their colours still vivid after three thousand years. You'll also see the terraced Temple of Hatshepsut, built for Egypt's most powerful female pharaoh, and the towering Colossi of Memnon. With a longer cruise comes the luxury of time — the afternoon is yours to relax on board as Luxor's temples glow across the water. Overnight moored in Luxor.
Today the river takes over. The ship sails south through the historic Esna Lock, easing between two sets of gates as the water level rises — a quiet, very local slice of Nile life. You arrive in Edfu, where a horse-drawn carriage clatters you through the market town to the Temple of Horus, the most complete ancient temple in Egypt. The rest of the day belongs to the sun deck and the slow green banks. Overnight moored in Edfu.
This morning you visit Kom Ombo, the only temple in Egypt dedicated to two gods at once — Sobek the crocodile god and Haroeris, Horus the Elder — standing right at the water's edge, with a small museum of mummified crocodiles beside it. The ship then sails on toward Aswan, the banks narrowing as the desert draws near and the light turns golden over the water. Arrive in the evening; overnight moored in Aswan.
Aswan is the Nile at its most beautiful — wide, blue, and scattered with granite islands. Today you visit the Aswan High Dam that created Lake Nasser, the giant Unfinished Obelisk still lying in its quarry, and Philae Temple, the island sanctuary of Isis reached by motorboat. An optional excursion to Abu Simbel — the colossal rock temples of Ramses II — can be arranged for the early morning. Overnight in Aswan.
A slower, gentler day in Aswan. Options include a motorboat visit to a colourful Nubian village, the lush Botanical Island (Kitchener's Island), and the view across the water to the Aga Khan Mausoleum. In the afternoon the ship turns north and begins the easy sail back downstream, the current now carrying you home. Sunset on the sun deck. Overnight on the river.
A full, restful day on the water as you sail back downstream toward Luxor, re-passing the Esna Lock. This is the heart of a long cruise — the pool, the sun deck, mint tea, and the green banks unspooling hour after hour with nowhere to be. In the evening, a galabeya party fills the deck with Egyptian music and dancing. Overnight moored in Luxor.
Your week on the Nile ends where it began, in Luxor. After a final breakfast on board you disembark — or, with time to spare, return to any sites you'd like to see once more before onward travel. You leave with a thousand years of stories and the slow rhythm of the river still with you.

The 7-night Nile cruise from Round_trip_luxor to Same is widely considered one of the most popular and best-value Nile itineraries in Egypt. Sailing upstream with the river's natural pace means a gentler, more relaxed journey — perfect for travelers who want to experience the Nile's most iconic temples without rushing.
This routing offers several distinct advantages over the reverse direction:
Across this voyage you'll experience some of Egypt's most significant ancient sites along the Nile — temples, monuments, and engineering marvels that have stood for millennia.
This itinerary operates year-round, but October through April offers the most pleasant weather, with warm days and cool evenings perfect for temple exploration. December and January are the peak months. May through August brings hot temperatures but also significantly lower prices and quieter ships — ideal for budget-conscious travelers.
The 7-night upstream cruise is ideal for first-time visitors to Egypt who want to experience the major Nile highlights without committing to a full week. It's also perfect for travelers combining their cruise with stays in Cairo, the Red Sea, or Jordan.
The 3-night cruise from Aswan to Luxor is the downstream itinerary — you sail with the current, which means a slightly faster pace but more time at temples. The 4-night cruise from Luxor to Aswan goes upstream with one extra day, allowing more leisurely sailing and a full day for Luxor's West Bank monuments (Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut Temple). Both visit the same major temples — the difference is direction, duration, and emphasis.
The October to April window offers the most pleasant weather — warm days, cool evenings, perfect for temple sightseeing. Peak season is December-January, particularly around Christmas. For lowest prices and quietest ships, consider May through August, though temperatures rise to 40°C+. Spring (March-April) and autumn (October-November) offer the best balance of weather, prices, and atmosphere.
Yes — Abu Simbel is highly recommended and can be added as an optional excursion. The trip is typically a full-day excursion by road (3 hours each way) or a quick flight from Aswan. The temples of Ramses II are unforgettable and worth the extra effort. Cost is approximately $250 per person by road or $400 by flight. We can arrange this when you book.
It depends on your budget and priorities. Luxury ships offer the largest cabins, multiple dining venues, full spas, and premium service — best for honeymoons or special occasions. Deluxe ships provide excellent comfort at better value. Standard ships offer the best price for travelers focused on the destinations rather than onboard amenities. All visit the same temples with similar guides.
3-6 months in advance is ideal for the best cabin selection, especially for peak periods (Christmas, New Year, Easter). Last-minute deals occasionally appear in low season. Christmas and New Year voyages on top luxury ships are often fully booked 6-12 months ahead. We can typically arrange bookings within 2-4 weeks of departure if availability allows.
While the cruise is a complete experience on its own, most travelers extend their trip to Cairo to see the Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, and the Grand Egyptian Museum. We offer integrated packages combining your Nile cruise with 2-3 nights in Cairo, including all transfers and guided tours. This creates the complete Egyptian experience — ancient capital + Nile temples + Pyramids.
