What is a dahabiya, and how is it different from a cruise ship?
A dahabiya is a small sailing boat — this one has twelve cabins against a cruise ship's eighty to a hundred and fifty. It sails rather than motors, so it moors at El Kab and Gebel el Silsila, which the big ships pass. There is no pool, no bar and no lift; there is silence, and the day runs at your pace rather than a timetable.
Which day of the week does the trip start?
The dahabiya boards in Aswan, and departures are usually Monday or Friday depending on the boat. Tell us the days your flights work and we build the Cairo nights around the sailing rather than the other way round.
Is Abu Simbel included or extra?
Included, and by air: a 45-minute flight from Aswan each way, about two hours at the temples of Ramses II and Nefertari with your Egyptologist, and back in Aswan by lunch.
What's the deposit and cancellation policy?
A 20% deposit confirms your booking, paid by secure card link or bank transfer, and the balance is due 30 days before arrival. Cancellation is free up to 45 days before arrival (60 days for Christmas, New Year and Easter dates); after that the charges in our Cancellation Policy apply. Domestic flight tickets already issued are refunded minus the airline’s fees.
How much walking is there?
The temples involve real walking on uneven ground, and the Valley of the Kings is ramps and steps. Because the boat is private the pace bends: tell us your comfort level once and it shapes the route, the hours and which tombs we include.
How much should I tip?
Budget about $8–10 per person per day covering the guide, the driver and the dahabiya crew. We give you a simple envelope guide so nothing feels awkward.
